Spiritual practices are intentional ways of making space to connect with God in everyday life. Through prayer, reflection and stillness, they can help us grow in intimacy with Him, deepen our trust and become more aware of His presence.
Examen Prayer
The Daily Examen is a simple prayer practice that invites you to reflect on your day with God.
In five steps, you pause, notice what you are grateful for, pay attention to your emotions, bring one moment into prayer and look towards tomorrow.
This practice also connects with some of the skills we use in counselling. Pausing and noticing your surroundings can help you feel more grounded. Naming what you felt during the day can help you begin to process experiences that may have felt overwhelming in the moment. Taking a few comfortable breaths and giving yourself time to reflect may help your body settle when you have been feeling stressed or on edge.
The Examen is a place to be honest with God. You can bring gratitude, anger, sadness, confusion or something you are still trying to understand. There is no need to force a positive feeling or work everything out in one sitting.
